Pastor Larry Pugh was born and reared in Rome, New York where he graduated from high school. After graduation, he went to Pennsylvania for two years to work near his brother, who was a pastor.
After serving in the Air Force and honorably discharged, he attended Cedarville University for two years. He moved to Florida to work near his sister, and met and married Beverly Caudell. After marrying, they moved to Tennessee to attend Carson Newman University. After his schooling, Larry worked in construction, and later the business world.
During that time Larry accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at Glenwood Baptist Church in Oak Ridge Tennessee. Then some weeks later, Larry felt the call of God upon his life to work in ministry. He accepted the call to First Baptist Church of Alcoa Tennessee as Minister of Music, and Youth. Toward the end of his 7 ½ years at Alcoa, the Lord call Larry to pastor. He accepted the call to Pastor at Piedmont Baptist Church in Dandridge Tennessee. While pastoring, Larry resumed his training by returning to Carson Newman as a religion major. He was also getting some of his seminary training through the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary from a special program for Carson Newman.
For some years, he pastored churches in Tennessee until God called him to Eldorado Illinois where Larry pastored for 11 years. It was during that time that the church encouraged him to finish his seminary work. Larry enrolled in Andersonville Theological Seminary in their extension program. After finishing his doctoral work, Larry was recruited to be an adjunct professor in their extension program, and taught “The Conquest Stage” of the Bible for several years by extension, wile continuing to pastor.
In the year 2000, Larry was called to Black Oak Baptist Church in Clinton Tennessee where he pastored until his retirement in 2015. Four months after retirement, Prospect Baptist Church called Larry out of retirement to pastor their church. Dr. Pugh is in his fifth year of service pastoring at Prospect Baptist Church.
Larry has been married for 50 years to his wife Beverly. They have three children: Roger Sean Pugh, Joshua Benjamin Pugh, and Jennifer Kristine Gilley. He and Beverly have 10 grandchildren.
